The Sunday following Fire Prevention Week, the Burtonsville Volunteer Fire Department (BVFD) in Montgomery County, Maryland hosted their Annual Open House. Station 15 was visited by over 500 members of the community during their four-hour event. Community members were given the opportunity to learn about numerous public fire and life safety tips including home fire safety tips, child car seat safety, and the close before you doze message. Attendees watched a vehicle extrication demonstration, had their blood pressures checked, learned how to create fire escape lans for the home and more.
Firefighter Michael Bulla manned the Close Before You Doze table and used BVFD’s homemade door prop and UL FSRI materials to explain the importance of closing doors before going to bed in case there is a fire in the home. This is the second year that this door prop has been featured at the event.
